Migratory Bird Sanctuary

Migratory Bird Sanctuary

Vanderhoof is home to the Migratory Bird Sanctuary, a national stopping ground for thousands of Canada geese, swans and other migratory birds each spring and fall. The sanctuary is right in town, on the Nechako River, so is a great easy stop for visitors. Vanderhoof welcomes a large number of birdwatchers and photographers during the peak of migration who come to view the many species of birds including Trumpeter Swans, Northern Pintails, and sandpipers, and even Caspian Terns that make a stop-over in the Sanctuary. A great place to spend the day birdwatching. The community network trail runs along the river from Riverside Park and affords more bird watching of chickadees, flycatchers, cowbirds, swallows, blackbirds and more. A sure stop for avid birdwatchers
