Keeping Vanderhoof Green
If you are passing through Vanderhoof, staying a while or live here, we encourage you to take advantage of the various recycling and waste management options we have in this community. Please help to keep Vanderhoof litter free and green. The Nechako Waste Reduction Initiative is working hard at education and initiatives toward the "greening" of Vanderhoof.
Recycling
Bottles and Cans
You can return bottles and cans (juice, soft drinks, water, beer, etc.) to the NVSS Bottle Depot at 293 East Third Street. A portion of the proceeds goes toward the high school sports teams.
Other alcoholic beverage containers can be taken to the Government Liquor Store on Burrard Avenue.
At this time there is no facility in Vanderhoof for recycling plastic containers other than Milk and Milk-substitute (see below). Please save these recyclables to take to a facility in another community (e.g. Prince George).

Enter your postal code in the website of those companies for a list of possible drop off locations in your area.
Used automobile batteries can currently be left in the appropriate battery box at the Transfer Station on Dump Road.
Tin and Scrap metal
Tin and scrap metal can be recycled at the Transfer Station.
Yard Waste
Wood 6cm in diameter or larger should be brought to the Transfer Station on Dump Road, and added to the wood pile. Any wood smaller than 6cm in diameter, brush and grass clippings can be left at the community compost, next to the baseball fields at the end of Recreation Road.
Garbage/ Trash
There are numerous public trash cans located in the downtown area, in all the municipal parks and at gas stations. Please use these trash cans for small volume garbage and waste created during shopping (coffee cups, bags, product packaging).
Household waste should be brought to the Transfer Station on Dump Road. Large volumes of household and construction waste (larger than a pick-up load) need to be taken directly to the landfill on Highway 27.
Brown Water - Sewage
There are sani-dumps at both Riverside Park ($2 for non-registrants) and Dave's RV Park ($5 for non-registrants).
Re-useables
Please take any unwanted items with life still in them to the Re-use Shed at the Transfer Station on Dump Road.
